Prime Minister Ciolacu and PSD continue their dedication to Black Sea Security and Stability

Over the past year, Prime Minister Ciolacu and PSD members advocated for the Black Sea Security Act during several visits to Washington with members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Black Sea Security Act Sponsors Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Congressman Bill Keating (D-MA). Specifically, the delegation, generally consisting of Economic Minister Radu Oprea, MEP Victor Negrescu, and Senator Robert Cazanciuc, communicated the need for a comprehensive U.S. Black Sea strategy that provides security and stability to foster greater economic development and reliable energy sources. The delegations also met with members of the Biden Administration at the State Department, Department of Commerce, and Department of Defense, advocating for each agency to play a role in the securing of the Black Sea Region.

The Black Sea Security Act authorizes the National Security Council to direct an interagency strategy to (1) increase coordination with NATO and the European Union, (2) deepen economic ties, and (3) strengthen the security and democratic resilience of partners in the Black Sea region in accordance with U.S. values and interests.
