Marcel Ciolacu, President of the Chamber of Deputies in the Romanian Parliament, has been conferring with European leaders to ensure a united response to the security and economic threats posed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Ciolacu is the President of the Social Democrats of Romania (PSD), the largest political party in the country. Ciolacu led his party into a coalition with the Liberal Party one year ago, pledging to “set aside political differences, put the people first, and solve the challenges facing our country.” Since then, Ciolacu has fought to bring the COVID-19 pandemic under control; raise the minimum wage for the lowest wage-earners; cap soaring energy prices insist on record levels of infrastructure investment to strengthen Romania’s strategic Black Sea ports, rail connections to Ukraine, energy corridors to Europe; and more to ensure Romania’s long-term economic viability.
Beyond his domestic achievements, Ciolacu has invested extensive time conferring with European and American leaders to unite freedom and democracy-loving nations to bring Europe closer together and rally against the ugly and violent attack on Ukraine by Russia. Ciolacu is expected to become Prime Minister of Romania in May 2023 as part of the coalition agreement.
