“THE FREE WORLD, THE DEMOCRATIC WORLD, IS MORE UNITED THAN EVER…” MARCEL CIOLACU MARKS SOMBER ANNIVERSARY WITH TROOPS

On the one-year anniversary of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, PSD President Marcel Ciolacu gathered with service members at the Romanian Air Force 57th Air Base (‘Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base’) near Constanța to reaffirm Romania’s commitment to Ukraine and the NATO cause.

“Today I came here to thank you… the fact that we together here – Romanians, Americans, Italians, and French – proves unequivocally that the free world, the democratic world, is more united than ever…” Mr. Ciolacu said to the gathered troops. He reflected on his own upbringing in a military family and the sacrifice that is made by service members and their families to provide safety to Romania and the democratic world.

Ciolacu remarked that Romania will not accept the actions of Russia, stating that, ‘if that foe goes unopposed, our very freedom and way of life may be next.’ Since the start of the war, Romania has been a steadfast partner to Ukraine, the U.S., and our NATO allies. The Air Force Base in Constanta has become a critical waypoint for allied forces, and the Port has been critical for transporting more than 11 million tons of grain and military supplies across the region. With 65% of all Ukrainian grain travelling through Romania to feed people across the world, the security of Romanian ports and rail are critical.
