The Social Democratic Party of Romania (PSD) calls for a constructive dialogue with the President and the other political forces

The Social Democratic Party of Romania (PSD) wishes to state that, during the forthcoming discussions with the President of Romania and the other political forces, it will not negotiate on portfolios or any other positions in a future government. The dialogue will be strictly limited to clarifying the political positions of each party, so that the PSD can decide in full knowledge of the facts whether or not to enter into government. Regardless of the final decision, the PSD will act responsibly and fully supports the installation of a functional government to ensure the leadership of Romania.

Regarding the political support for a future government, whether in a governing coalition or from the opposition benches, the PSD wishes to empasize the following:
1. The PSD will not accept under any circumstances cuts to investments in infrastructure, the economy, and local community development programs targeting roads, schools, medical facilities, water supply, and sanitation works. Cutting these investments would mean perpetuating and deepening the gaps between local communities, which the PSD cannot accept. Furthermore, the PSD will categorically oppose the suspension, blocking, or underfunding of projects for the construction of high-speed roads that are already in various stages of tendering, design, or execution.
2. The PSD will not support any measure that has the effect of reducing the purchasing power of pensioners and low and middle-income employees. Thus the PSD categorically excludes any increase in taxation on labor or pensions in the public system.
3. The PSD will firmly oppose any move that would involve Romania in any type of military action outside the framework of NATO or outside the defense of the national territory.
At the same time, the PSD wishes to stress the fact that any sincere political dialogue must begin with the recognition of the indisputable achievements of the government over the last three years. During this period, we have seen:

(1) the largest investments in Romania’s history,

(2) the largest increases in the population’s income, and

(3) the most extensive development of transport infrastructure in our country.

Denying these facts in an attempt to paint a picture of a disastrous governance, with the aim of blaming the PSD for the unpopular measures of a future government, is contrary to the idea of a constructive political dialogue in the interests of Romania.
