Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu capped a successful year-long advocacy effort in support of the Black Sea Security Act this past December with a visit to Washington, D.C. The bill passed the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives as part of the annual National Defense Authorization Act, a bill that specifies Department of Defense policies.
For the Prime Minister, fostering the Strategic Partnership with the U.S. is a top priority. For this, he constantly advocated for the U.S. to engage and support Romania and the region at large. On the Act’s passage, Ciolacu gives his thanks to Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Congressman Bill Keating (D-MA) for their staunch support and sponsorship of the bill, “It is an important time and moment. To have the support and acknowledgment of the United States will help Romania and the Black Sea Region to counter Russia’s maligned influence.”
As Romania continues to lead the way in supporting Ukraine and backing Moldova, they will continue to lead by example.
