The German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz; the common candidate for the head of the European Commission, Commissioner Nicolas Schmit; the president of the PES, the former prime minister Stefan Lofven; and the S&D leader in the European Parliament, Iratxe Garcia Perez, are just some of the leaders of the PES that attended, on April 6th, the PES Leaders Conference in Bucharest.
In the plenary session, prime minister Marcel Ciolacu praised Chancellor Scholz and European Social democrats’ unwavering support for Romania’s accession to the Schengen area. He also referred to the time-tested solidarity of the PES political family in support of farmers and citizens affected by the multiple overlapping crises affecting the whole of Europe.
“Our political family has always been and remains Romania’s main ally at the European level. Social democrats will continue to have a strong voice in Europe defending people’s rights & a social, democratic & sustainable Europe.”, Ciolacu said. We are building, with professionalism, a strong Romania in the European Union! A strong Social Democratic Party within the PES means more strength and more influence for Romania in the decision-making process at the European level.
