Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu held multiple high-level consultations with heads of States and Governments and EU high officials, addressing the security challenges raised by the war in Ukraine and its consequences.
The need to address the common security concerns by working together in the fields of infrastructure, defense, and refugee flows was acknowledged by all the parties during the discussions, as well as the danger represented by the rise of extremist movements throughout Europe. The meetings also addressed the situation of the existing economic bilateral exchanges and the perspectives of deepening them.
The meetings underscored the possibilities for center-left and center-right European political forces to reach common ground in tackling the complex political and security situation in our region. Prime Minister Ciolacu welcomed in March Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and received at Victoria Palace Mrs. Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, Maia Sandu, President of the Republic of Moldova, Viola Amherd, President of the Swiss Confederation, as well as Ingrida Simonyte, Prime Minister of Lithuania, Leo Varadkar, Taoiseach (Prime minister) of Ireland, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime minister of Greece, Donald Tusk, Prime minister of Poland, and Karl Nehammer, Chancellor of Austria.
