PSD President Marcel Ciolacu, President of the Chamber of Deputies, on the occasion of the visit to Romania by the Vice President of the United States of America Kamala Harris, made the following declaration.

“Romania is now on the front line of Western democracy and we count on the support of the United States of America to defend it together.

This is the main message I sent to US Vice President Kamala Harris today, assuring her of our full commitment to protecting our democratic values and the security interests our nations share as allies.

At the same time, we must be aware that what is happening in Ukraine has a direct impact on all of us. The world has changed, and we are facing a new reality. This means new challenges for our people, our economy, and our social structure.

We will continue to support refugees arriving in our country, but we must also think about our families and our children. That is why our strategic partnership must be developed and include stronger economic cooperation. American investment in the energy, defense, trade, and financial sectors is absolutely essential.

Romanians are ready to help in this difficult moment, but we need all the support and support from our partners so that the economic and social impact on our country is as low as possible.”
