Dan Nica: Romanian Accession to Schengen necessary for managing refugee influx

March 9, 2022

MEP Dan Nica, the leader of PSD Delegation in the European Parliament, pleaded in the plenary session in Strasbourg for Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area in order to better manage the flow of refugees from Ukraine.

Nica called for EU mobilization to help refugees from Ukraine. He told the story of a woman who died after spending three days waiting at the border between Hungary and Romania due to delays that could be lessened if Romania were allowed to enter Schengen.

“The danger is a humanitarian crisis of great proportions, affecting both these refugees – and I warn that more and more socially and medically vulnerable people will come – but also the member states, especially those in the immediate vicinity of Ukraine. We need an urgent and massive mobilization of funds, logistics and personnel at the European level.”
