Romanian Economy Minister Stefan-Radu Oprea recently visited Washington, D.C., where he met with leaders from U.S. government agencies and leading American businesses. The visit is his third to the United States since December 2022 and the first in his current portfolio. His visit comes on the heels of the Three Seas Initiative Forum hosted by Romania in Bucharest. The Forum was attended by over a thousand guests, including senior U.S. government officials and business executives.

During his visit, Oprea met with Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago to discuss strengthening trade and commercial ties between the two countries.  He also met with U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC) Deputy CEO Nisha Biswal to discuss potential investments into renewable energy projects, as well DFC financing for the eventual Ukraine reconstruction, following previous conversations between the DFC and Romanian authorities during the recent Three Seas Initiative (3SI) Summit in Bucharest. Additionally, the Economy Minister met with Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Jessica Lewis and Assistant Secretary of Defense for Sustainment Christopher Lowman.

Economy Minister Oprea presented U.S. companies with a range of opportunities to engage with Romania’s vibrant and dynamic economy and rising defense sector. Throughout the trip, Oprea met with representatives from Amazon, Boeing, Raytheon, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, IBM, Intel, and more. Through personal, high-level engagement, the Minister highlighted Romania’s pro-business environment and investment potential to U.S. and European companies.
