As the upcoming transition of power nears, PSD President Marcel Ciolacu is preparing for his term as Prime Minister by continuing his effort to build strong relationships with international leaders. Bucharest welcomed President Maia Sandu of Moldova for a series of discussions and meetings focused on developing a strong economic plan to support Romanian investments in the Republic of Moldova.
Mr. Ciolacu also met with President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan to discuss three critical energy infrastructure projects that could ensure that Romania becomes the gateway for gas and energy supply from Azerbaijan to the rest of Europe. The projects include a proposed acquisition contract to bring gas from Azerbaijan to Romania and Moldova, an LNG terminal in the Black Sea, and the development of submarine cable infrastructure in the Black Sea for the transport of clean energy product. Recently, Mr. Ciolacu also met with government leaders in Italy and Belgium to discuss Romanian accession to the visa-free Schengen Area. He also presided over the recent Congress of international social democratic parties in Spain for the first time in his role as Vice President.
